Reclamation & Regeneration, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF), Munimba-ja Art Centre, 2026

Deeply informed by this year’s CIAF theme, Reclamation & Regeneration, the artist’s practice aligns closely with its focus on cultural renewal and reclamation, particularly through ongoing engagement with Gamilaroi grains. As echoed by CIAF Artistic Director Teho Ropeyarn, “Reclamation is not just a theme; it is a movement. It is the art of remembering, resisting, and rising”—a sentiment that resonates strongly throughout the work.

The artist participated in a 10-day Blak Camp residency at Cairns Northsite Print Studio through Munimba-ja Art Centre, developing two new silkscreen editions alongside a collective of Blak creatives. Throughout the residency, they were mentored by Sam Tupou and Matilda Nona, whose guidance played a key role in expanding both technical approaches and conceptual thinking within their silkscreen practice.

The resulting works will be presented as part of the Munimba-ja booth at the Tanks Arts Centre.
